Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaking. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, commentaries and analysis of the way in which popular culture portrays women. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and award-winning feminist for over 10 years. Feminist Frequency is an educational site for non-profit organizations that investigates representations of women in narratives from popular culture. Dispelling stereotypes of women is her main focus. But, she also explores the issue of specifically targeted harassment online against women as well as other communities that have been left out. Sarkeesian who has the degree of Master's in Social and Political Thinking from York University, is a popular public speakers. She has given speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. She was interested in feminist issues, gender and gender equality since a early time. In 2009, when she was still studying at university she started her Feminist Frequency web site. In 2009, the determined young woman was targeted online for launching a website featuring a series about gender and videogames. The attack wasn't enough to stop her. In fact, it strengthened her commitment to being a feminist and a media critique. Her numerous contributions to the feminist field are recognized with numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian, a media journalist who has received many awards, and also founded Feminist Frequency which is an educational nonprofit that studies the ways women are depicted within media narratives.
